Your Chance to Speak… I mean… Write.

Welcome… (as Leila said) to the Global Issues Blog. Over the summer, this blog has been taking its own “vacation”. The summer was a break from school, jobs and any other sort of work. But now….. the summer is over, and me and Leila are ready to get back on board.

Alot of our posts were written by either me or Leila. So… how would you like to get the chance to write your own post on the blog?? You can write about anything. Some choices are.. the GI club, issues in the world, inspirational people and many other topics you would like to talk about.
Well.. if you want to write a post, read the instructions below:

  • Post a comment (on this post) that basically says your grade and first name ONLY. That’s the only thing you will have to comment. When you’ve included your email in one of the required fields, please make sure it’s an email address you normally check.

Those are the steps that you will have to do for now. After 1-3 days, check your email for any news. You don’t have to send in a post, this is your choice. If you have any questions (because I’m sure this process can be confusing), post up the question on this post.

Facing the Future

Published by nabila under Raising Awareness, Video, General

Me and Leila are working side by side on this post. She has written a post about next year’s events and conferences. As you know, we are really really excited of all of the them (especially the third one..). Well.. she asked me to add the video that has to do alot of the topic we are talking about right now. I’ve looked at it and I found it really interesting.
This video is named “Facing the Future”. It has to do with a school and a new curriculum that is about the Global Issues today and how to be a change in this world. Hmmm… doesn’t that sound exactly like a class we know at our school?? Teachers in the Middle and High School have started this program to let their students be more aware of the issues that are going around in our world.

Here is the video. You’ll find it very interesting and similar to our school in many ways…

We Need to Wake Up…

Published by nabila under Action, Networking, General

Even though Leila has posted up some great articles on the blog… I feel that we still lack posts that are done by other members. We were more active and “blogging” some time ago. I feel that it should happen again. I feel that this blog could really go all-the-way if we all work together.

Here are some ideas of posts:

  • If you are in the Global Issues elective class with Mr. J, write about the recent “Labor Camp Blaze” and what our school did to help.
  • Some fundraises for ACET that we could probably do before the end of the school year
  • Even though it was a couple of weeks ago… write about how you celebrated Earth Day

These are all just suggestions. You could think of more interesting topics that you want to write about. Just send it to either Leila’s or my email and we’ll check it and post it up. If you forgot our emails, just ask us and we’ll tell you. Or maybe we’ll just say it the next time we all meet.

We can all bring our blog back to life again…

Idol Gives Back..

Published by nabila under General

A little while ago, American Idol had their yearly Idol Gives Back event. Maybe some of you heard of it. Well, it’s basically all about different celebrities and charities from different industries coming together and devote their time to helping the world become a more better place. You would donate some money and they will go to Africa and helpless people around America. This big event was 2-3 hours long. There were many people from Carrie Underwood to John Cenna. Many charities also came up to the stage and talked about their action plans. Not every great musician were there up on that stage though. Bono (U2) was in Africa helping people who were effected by AIDS. Daughtry (a band made by season 5, top 4 contestant Chris Daughtry) was sent to Uganda and help people on the field. They suffered many illnesses. But that didn’t stop Daughtry into participating in Idol Gives Back. He sent a video of his band’s journey in Africa. Here’s the video.

It was pretty nice of them to help people around Uganda. And I bet this video was powerful and inspired people for caring about the people that are suffering. As I read the comments for this video in Youtube, a commentor said “I regret only dontaing 25 dollars”. Then, the usual quote I hear in my head is “A little change can make a difference”. So, I typed that up next to his comment. Don’t know what the person’s response was.. but I know that everyone can make a difference…

Change at the Blog 2

Published by nabila under Networking, General

As you know from previous posts, me and Leila are controlling the blog now. It will get tough at first, but I think we can live up to it. We will get closer… one step at a time.
My name is Nabila and am really looking forward to this whole new blogging process. People in the GI- Club dedicates their time for solving the global issues in this world. We hope to find other people who will do just the same. This blog is a place to communicate to one another and discuss many topics. We are hoping to keep this blog up-and-running for a very long time.
Little things can make a difference…. let’s all start by spreading awareness by this blog.

Change at the blog

Published by 12lwarraich under Events, General

Hi Everyone,

Well after Mr.R left, the blog has died down. But it’s time to turn it back up! You might be wondering who this is and so I’ll answer that question.

First of all I am Leila. I’m a student in the middle school and also a Global Issues member. After Mr.R left the blog has been handed down to two Global Issues members. Me and Nabila. Mr. J will be on too but you will be hearing more from us. So now that you know who I am, we can move on.

Let’s not forget why we started our blog. the most important reason was and is to network with people our there and try to make change. Technology is a powerful tool in helping us so should use it. I will try my best to help with the blog so we can use these tool to help make change.

Let’s Start A Blog

Published by Mr. J under General

Hello everyone,

Before we start sharing our new niche on the internet with people in our grade level, school, community, and then the larger world community, we need to first build our blog. The teachers thought it would be a good idea to have you, the members of the club, begin to write a few articles, posts, book reviews, or personal reflections about why you are here and what we are doing as a group. If you want to leave a short answer, simply click on the comment link below and type your response directly. If however, you are interested in writing a more in depth piece please email it to me and the tech team and I will post it here on the blog.

Here are a few guiding questions to get you started:

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action with without vision is a nightmare.”

-Japanese Proverb

  • Why did you join the Global Issues club? What is your vision and what action do you plan to take?
  • Can I make a difference in the world?
  • If I really care about an issue, how do I convince others to care, and therefore act?
  • What makes a person great?
  • Who are your heroes? Why are they your hero?
